Rural health camps
LIFE has conducted and continues to conduct free rural health camps at Karjat, a small town about 80 km from Mumbai, since about 2012.
- Frequency: every 3-4 months
- Patients: about 50-75 per camp
- Camp activities:
- Consultations
- PEFR (Peak expiratory flow rate) check-ups
- Pulmonary Function Tests
- Demonstration of correct inhaler techniques
- Advise on airways diseases
- Distribution of inhalers, nasal sprays and other medicines
- We have expanded our activities to include ECG (EKG) and blood sugar testing when able
- Distribution of educational material regarding lung health
Scholarships
- We have instituted a rural Young Achievers Scholarship program.
- Students of the rural school at Vadap, a village near Karjat, Maharashtra, who stand first in their classes, grade 2nd through to 7th, will be awarded a scholarship.
This is the first such scholarship in this area.
